Is it really, really FREE to become a member?SICIC logo

YES!!
We may, at any time, decide to charge for NEW memberships, but will never charge those who are already members. If you are joining TODAY, you can be assured you will have a FREE lifetime membership (unless you upgrade - there is no upgrade option as of today).

Surely you will need money to pay the bills – so what is the catch?

No catches. The question of how we will be able to pay the bills is a valid one, and something we at the Self Improvement Community Interest Company (the non-profit organization that founded this community and assists the Community in any way it can) needs to address in the short and long term. These are the ways we envisage creating some cash towards paying the bills*:
  • We may, at any time, decide to charge for NEW memberships.
  • We may create a new type of membership that is an upgrade from the basic membership for a fee. However, you will not be forced to upgrade, and you will always have a fully functioning membership. We plan to upgrade the features of the basic membership over time, but these will also be free for you to use.
  • We may accept limited advertising.
  • We may charge a fee for additional services beyond the normal. e.g.: to allow a business to put their website address and short description at the bottom of articles they write (normally members would have to click on the link to the author’s Profile to get this information).
  • We may create additional features or memberships aimed at Professionals who want more facilities (authorship facilities, manage private Groups, etc.), they can buy for a fee.
  • The main earner for SICIC may come from courses we create and promote.
  • We accept donations, but will never push it.
* If you are a member and would like to contribute ideas, and preferably some skills or energy, to the problem of paying for the upkeep of the Community please contact the SICIC Team via our Profile.

The Registration form asks for my name, as well as a Username, but I’d prefer to stay anonymous.

The Username is used on your Profile (your real name is kept hidden). You can edit any part of your Profile from inside your Profile area, including your real name, EXCEPT your Username.

The only times your real name is seen (other than by the SICIC Team – some of whom are member volunteers) is when you write an article, or write a Comment to an article. Your real name appears as the author of your article or Comment which also acts as the link to your Profile. For most people this is OK and preferable. However, if you really do not want people to have your real name and still wish to write articles for the Community, you can change your real name for a pseudonym.

Will you be asking for any additional information other than what is asked for on the first Registration page?

There are no further parts to registration – what you see is ALL we will ask of you. Any additional information you wish to display via your Profile is your choice. If you choose not to enter information the title for that information will not be displayed either. i.e. The word 'Occupation' will only appear in your Me at SICIC box if you have add your job title via the Edit Your Profile link. Those choices include:

Me at SICICsuspicious minds??
About Me; Occupation; Interests;

Find Me
Contact details (useful if you’re a Professional); My website; My MySpace; My Messenger ID; and others…

Other things that will be displayed on your Profile include:

Links to the articles you have written.

Friendly Faces

So your friends and other members can find your contributions to discussions in the Groups.

and others...

What happens after I Register? Do I get immediate access?

You will be send an email to your email address. Check your SPAM folder if you do not get it within minutes. In the email is a confirmation link. Clicking on the link will open your browser** and display a message saying you can now log in to the SICIC.org website. The login box will be on the left.

** If the link in your email isn’t live (shown as blue with a line underneath it) or will not open your browser, you may have to cut & paste the web address into the address bar of your browser (making sure there are no spaces at the end) and press ENTER on your keyboard.
